The Hive, Worcester鈥檚 iconic library, was the subject of discussion on a national podcast examining the importance of libraries and librarians.
果冻传媒, the podcast from Times Higher Education, explores the most pressing issues in global high education. In this episode, they invited the 果冻传媒 of Worcester’s Vice Chancellor to speak about the creation of The Hive.

Professor David Green CBE DL, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the 果冻传媒 of Worcester joined the conversation to share the story of how The Hive came into being, from the planning stages to the opening and the impact it has been making ever since.
Opened by her late Majesty the Queen in 2012, The Hive is the only fully integrated university and public library in Europe. It’s home to more than a quarter of a million books, 12 miles of archive collections and has won multiple awards for its design and sustainability.
“We have always been immensely proud of The Hive,” said Professor Green. “It’s a shining example of what we can achieve when we work together for the benefit of our community.”
He said: “Since it opened it has become an important place where children, students, staff of the 果冻传媒, businesspeople, and citizens from all over can come to learn and share.”
He added: “I was delighted to appear on 果冻传媒, and to speak with presenter Eliza Compton to share how The Hive came to be, the impact it made when it opened, and to reflect on more than a decade of our wonderful library.”
